English version:
Our dear colleague, but above all a great husband and father Antonio, left us forever after a short and insidious illness on November 19, 2020 at the age of nearly 55. He is survived by his wife Paola and two beautiful talented daughters, who are now experiencing a very difficult stage in their lives. Therefore, we have decided to start a fundraising campaign to help the bereaved family in this difficult period.
Dear friends, please, lets’ make things easier for them together.
Antonio
We will remember Antonio as a great colleague, an excellent laser physicist and an absolutely key member of HiLASE Centre, who was a part of it from the very beginning. He was the leader of an international research team with high ambitions, namely to design and develop a 100 J/10 Hz laser system scalable to level 1 kJ. This eventually succeeded, and in 2016 the Bivoj laser system set a world record as the first kilowatt laser power source in the class. Antonio was also very insightful in early identification of new research directions so important for the scientific independence of HiLASE. Prior to joining HiLASE he worked for Max Born Institute in Germany, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the University of Florida in the USA, and CNRS in France.
He was perceived as a truly experienced international expert and his premature departure is a huge loss not only for HiLASE, but for the entire scientific community.
As a person, Antonio was inherently kind, with a great sense of duty and real humanity. He had an open mind and heart, and he was always ready to help others. He was able to listen calmly to various opinions and arguments with infinite patience. Perhaps that is why he was so successful at working with people.
He left us so suddenly and prematurely that it is still hard to believe. Gone too soon, but never forgotten!
Antonio was a very decent man and breadwinner father. Therefore, we deeply sympathize with his wife Paola and daughters Margherita and Martina, who are now at the brink of adulthood and are experiencing a very difficult period of change and uncertainty. They will certainly appreciate, not only, your memory of Antonio, but also all the other support you might be able to provide.
Funds from the fundraiser will be used to
Funds from the fundraiser will be used to financially support the daughters Margherita, Martina and the widow Paola, at this extremely difficult time. Specifically, to cover their educational costs (tuition fees, teaching aids, and travel expenses), basic livelihoods (housing, food, and healthcare), legal aid and travel expenses.
On behalf of the bereaved family, we would like to sincerely thank you for your quiet memory and financial assistance, whatever your contribution may be.
