Introduction to the fundraising
The destiny of Zdeněk – a loving father, granddad, friend, colleague and my life partner – changed completely in the pre-Christmas time 2024. He has always been the man dedicating his life to helping children and young people, the active sportman, the passionate handyman, the talented guitarist… And suddenly, the unexpected circumstances caused that he became also the strong and brave fighter with insidious disease – glioblastoma multiforme, the most malignant known, highly aggressive and fast-growing type of brain tumor.
This type of tumor stays incurable for the current medicine. The only hope for (longer) life exists in applying the innovative method Optune TTF, which is extremely expensive and not paid by any health insurance company in the Czech Republic. However, this modern oncological method undoubtedly saves lives or can at least significantly extend lives of patients.
Whom are we going to help?
Primarily, Zdeněk was diagnosed by a stroke (celebrovascular accident) after experiencing terrible migraine headaches and loosing the peripheral vision of one eye in December 2024. Unfortunately, his health condition got considerably worse during the Christmas time and he had to be hospitalized. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan pointed out the glioblastome of the stage IV that was later confirmed by a biopsy.
Zdeněk underwent the complicated surgery and all available oncological treatment as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Nowadays, he continues in regular cycles of chemotherapy, but this traditional oncological treatment definitely does not lead to a cure and the chance of survival is practically zero.
The only hope for life represents the TTF treatment achieving excellent results.
The TTF method uses alternating electric fields that damage tumor cells and prevent them from further division, rising and spread. Despite the fact that this therapy was for the first time applied at the Hospital Na Homolce in Prague, it is still unpaid by any health insurance company in the Czech Republic (in comparison to many other countries worldwide). As a result, the seriously ill patient and his family face not only the complicated treatment of sympthoms of
the disease, pain and permanent stress, but also have to seriously concern whether they will be able to raise millions of Czech crowns for this very expensive, but proven and demonstrably life-extending, method.
Zdeněk has been helping the others throughout whole his life. He used to work as a teacher, a special pedagogue, a social worker in children´s homes and diagnostic institutes and as a therapist with drug-addicted youth. Now, he needs a help himself.
How exactly will be the raised money invested?
Obviously, it is impossible for our family to pay the expensive TTF treatment, which should last at least 12 months to achieve optimal results, with a total cost of 7,500,000 CZK or more.
Therefore, we would like to address you – our friends, Donio contributors, the public, all kind people reading these words – and politely ask you for any possible financial assisstance that will help Zdeněk to undergo this effective treatment.
Even the smallest amounth donated will be heartly appreciated and we will be very thankful for that.
The raised money will be used to pay for the TTF method treatment itself and for the additional medical expenses associated with this therapy or another therapies and medications that could somehow improve Zdeněk´s health condition.
If your financial help rose higher than year-lasting TTF treatment requires, we would use the money to prolong this therapy – because the longer it lasts, the better results it yields.
The biggest and the most sincere wish of our family is the hope for life for Zdeněk.
