Vojta has been living alone with mother for the last 10 years, on whom he is entirely dependent for all of his care and financial well-being, including every aspect of his mobility. Our Mom works as a nurse for social services providing institutional as well as home care. This is strenuous work and, given that Vojta was born when she was 42 years old, it is easy to see that these dual demands are extraordinary and unsustainable.
This year, Vojta graduated with honors from the Prague Business Academy and was accepted to study at the Charles University Law Faculty, about which we are thrilled.
Clearly, Vojta is a very intelligent and ambitious young man having decided to study law between his second and third year of high school, and then achieving this distinguished goal that would have been challenging for anyone.
Vojta enjoys speaking English with friends, in his studies and international gaming, which he now does officially on the native speaker level after successfully passing the C2 exam.
These accomplishments would be heroic for anyone, but are especially remarkable as he is all but completely physically dependent, i.e. he cannot move on his own and needs the assistance of another person for all activities beyond using the joystick controller on his electric wheelchair and the keyboard on his PC.
Vojta must drink from a straw from a prepared glass and, most often – especially when he is fatigued, requires dedicated assistance even just to eat.
All of the money we are able to raise in this effort will be dedicated to the purchase of a new car. Our Mom’s old car is reaching the end of its long life and the repairs are becoming more and more financially overwhelming, and the unreliability is too disruptive. As you can imagine for a young person with such mobility issues, this creates an enormous demand for our brother who’s dependence on a car to attend his studies, get to numerous doctor check-ups, and for regular commuting to and from boarding school is so much greater than what we normally take for granted. In a fit of optimism, I can report that, if we are able to collect an amount larger than what we are hoping to get for a new car, the extra money will be used for Vojta’s frequently required rehabilitation stays that are most often not covered by health insurance.
On behalf of my Mom, my brother and sisters and myself, we will be extremely grateful for every donation. Thank you very much.
