Meet with Vítek and his family
Hello all! We are a Kubík family: mum Veronika, dad Jirka and our three sunshines: almost 5 years old Svetlana, 3 years old Viola and our youngest one, 1 year old Vítězslav. Family is everything to us – we love spending time together and strive to live a full and active life. However, Vítek's arrival, while bringing joy, also brought a great challenge that turned our days upside down.
Vítek's Difficult Start to Life
During birth, Vítek suffered a severe obstetrical paralysis (paresis) of the right brachial plexus with Horner's syndrome. His right hand is weak, cooler to the touch with significantly limited mobility, and lacks a functional grip. The condition involves damage to the sympathetic nerves in the neck area, which also causes a droopy eyelid and changes in the eye. For Vítek, this means daily obstacles in common activities that other children manage naturally. Despite everything, Vítek is a smiling child full of curiosity who brings joy to everyone around him.
Critically Important Surgery and Never-Ending Rehabilitation
When the little one was just three months old, in January 2025, he underwent a demanding reconstructive nerve surgery in Ústí nad Labem, where leading neurosurgeons comprehensively repaired the entire plexus. It was a huge trial, but we believe it gave him a chance for a better life. Since then, intensive and regular rehabilitation has been the most important thing, as it will determine how much of the hand's function can be restored.
A Daily Battle for Small Progress
Every day, we practice Vojta therapy with Vítek, stimulate his muscles, massage and stretch, and apply kinesiology tape. We travel for rehabilitation, electrostimulation, and electroacupuncture, consult with doctors, and look for other options.
Vítek's condition requires a lot of time and energy. His sisters adore him and motivate him during exercises with their playful nature, but they also need time for games and friends. Balancing Vítek's care with the needs of Světlanka and Violka is often very difficult.
Thanks to immense effort, he has already learned to lift his hand, bend his elbow, and partially support himself while crawling. These are small steps, but for us, a huge victory. However, the paresis doesn't just affect the hand—it influences his entire posture, which is why comprehensive and long-term therapy is needed.
We have managed a lot on our own until now, but we now need your help.
Why We Need Your Help
While the health insurance covers some of the care, we must secure many therapies and aids crucial for Vítek ourselves. These „above-standard“ methods significantly increase the chances of successful rehabilitation and a full life.
These include, for example:
Repeated intensive neurorehabilitation in specialized centers and associated costs.
Bobath physiotherapy, osteodynamics, swimming, hippotherapy, and occupational therapy.
Red light therapy or the BEMER therapy.
Special orthoses, splints, and tapes.
Nutritional supplements.
Co-payments associated with spa treatment.
We have a long journey ahead of us, on which we will constantly try new procedures and look for those that will benefit Vítek the most.
How We Will Use the Collected Funds
Most therapies are far from our home, so we spend a lot of time traveling. Our current car can no longer handle the demanding pace, so we would like to use some of the funds for a reliable family car that will allow us to transport Vítek to rehabilitation and examinations. It is a necessity for us—without a car, we wouldn't be able to manage his care. Moreover, public transport journeys take up to three times longer, which deprives us of precious time for games, playtime at the playground, or shared moments of laughter with the children.
If only a part of the target amount is raised, we will use it as effectively as possible – we will select a few of the most beneficial therapies and therapeutic stays that could have the biggest impact on improving Vítek's arm mobility. A part of the funds will also be used to purchase a much-needed car, the remaining value of which we will cover from our own resources.
If more than the target amount is raised, it will allow Vítek to undergo a wider range of therapies and stays in rehabilitation centers over the next 2–3 years, and will also contribute to the purchase of a car that will facilitate the family's transport to the required treatments.
What Our Dream Is
Imagine Vítek in a few years, happily playing volleyball with friends, perhaps trying chords on a guitar, or tying his own shoelaces so he can run outside after his sisters. This dream—a childhood full of possibilities where he can use both hands without restriction—is what drives us forward. His right hand is weak today, but with your help, we can open up a world for Vítek where he can choose what he enjoys.
Every contribution you make is a step towards his independence and freedom of choice. It helps us ease the demanding daily challenges and gives us the strength to believe that Vítek will one day stand on his own feet, even with the hand that does not yet obey.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every donation, share, and thought! ❤️
With gratitude,
The Kubík Family
