Fundraiser introduction
This collection is to help my friend Will from Indonesia. My goal is to enable him to pay for the renovation of the roof, and therefore the house, of his parents'.
Who are we helping ?
I will try to keep the story as brief as possible to respect your time.
I met Will in Indonesia, where he works as a waiter in a restaurant on an island near Bali. During our chats, we even came across topics such as his job and family. I was interested in why he works so hard and what drives him, and his answer touched me far more than I expected.
Will lives with his entire family on the island of Lombok, east of Bali. His parents' house was severely damaged in a strong earthquake in 2018, and since then, Will has been trying to save up to at least repair the roof, which is still leaking now, years later.
At this time, there’s a rainy season in Indonesia, which lasts on average from November to March. In January, it rains almost every day there, with many times more precipitation than in the Czech Republic. For the family, this means a constant battle with humidity, damaged belongings, and the fear of every next storm.
In his free time, Will also helps local people on the island, where he earns only 50k rupiah per day, which is about 62 Czech crowns.
He needs approximately 40 million rupiah, which is less than 50k Czech crowns, to renovate the house.
For us, it may be an amount we can imagine saving, but for him, with local salaries, it represents a goal that will be years away.
It is probably not a common way to raise funds for someone abroad, but unfortunately, Indonesia does not support websites like this one, where he could ask for help. That is why I decided, with all due respect and humility, to test the power of the internet and help Will with whatever amount is raised.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who took the time to read this story, and even more to those who have decided to help.
What will the funds from this fundraiser be used for ?
The funds raised will be used to repair the roof of Will’s parents’ house. If the total amount collected allows, they will also go toward essential repairs caused by long-term humidity and the aftermath of the earthquake.
If we don’t manage to raise the full amount (for example, only half), the collected money will be used to cover part of the essential house repairs, and Will will continue saving up the remaining amount himself, as he has been doing so far.
As mentioned earlier, if we raise more than the target amount, the extra funds will be used for further house repairs, including issues caused by long-term humidity, damaged furniture, and similar problems.
