V prvním měsíci ji lékaři zachránili život operací. V roce následovala další operace, ve dvou letech jí byla implantována mitrální chlopeň a později ji byl implantován kardiostimulátor. Všechny operace způsobily, že ve dvou letech byla úplný ležák. Jednou za čas musí na výměnu kardiostimulátoru, každá delší narkóza ji vrací zpět ve vývoji a mnohdy musíme věci, které již uměla, znovu učit.
Prognózy lékařů byly velmi skeptické, a to, že nikdy nebude chodit, mluvit, nebude sama jíst a zvládat další běžné činnosti.
Po mé intenzivní rehabilitaci, když jí bylo 10 let, udělala první samostatné kroky. Naučila se hovořit, jíst lžící a velmi omezené samostatnosti. Přesto chodí špatně, je inkontinentní, má centrální hypotonii, a není s to fungovat téměř sama. Nyní má 24 let, ale je na úrovni 2 až 8 letého dítěte. Péče o tak postižené dítě je velmi psychicky a fyzicky náročná.
Kvůli svému zdravotnímu stavu, není schopna dlouho chodit, potřebuje oporu a kontakt. V domácím prostředí se snaží chodit, ale venku musí používat i vozík. Za to, že chodí, i když špatně, jsem nesmírně vděčná, protože lékaři ji nedávají velkou naději, že u chůze zůstane. Aby toho Kristýnka neměla málo, v roce 2020 jí byl měněn kardiostimulátor a při této „lehčí“ operaci jí byl zavlečen do těla zlatý stafylokok, dostal se po elektrodách až k srdci. Od toho roku prodělala velkou řadu operací a výměnu kardiostimulátoru, s tím, že už 3 roky má otevřenou ránu na hrudi, chodíme téměř každý týden na převazy do nemocnice a obden ji musím sama převazovat. Dlouho jsme zvažovali, jestli by byl pejsek pro Kristýnku vhodný a došli jsme k závěru, že bude pro ni velkým pomocníkem, kamarádem a společníkem. Bude ji nejen zklidňovat, rehabilitovat, hrát si s ní, ale bude i dalším členem naši rodiny. Ve spolupráci s koordinátorkou asistenčních psů jsme si vybrali královského pudla Benjiho, kterého si Kristýnka velmi oblíbila.
Kristýnka je neskutečně úžasná holčička. Miluje své sourozence, miluje život, hračky procházky a hlavně je velmi pozitivní a silná, každý z nás by se od ní mohl učit. I přes to všechno jsme rodina, která je šťastná, máme se navzájem velmi rádi a užíváme si života plnými doušky.

In the first month, doctors saved her life with surgery. In the following years, she underwent further surgeries, and at the age of two, a mitral valve was implanted, followed by the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. All these surgeries rendered her completely bedridden by the age of two. Occasionally, she needs to have her pacemaker replaced, and each longer anesthesia setback in her development. Often, we have to re-teach her things she had previously learned.
The doctors' prognosis was very skeptical, suggesting that she would never walk, talk, feed herself, or manage other everyday activities.
After intensive rehabilitation when she was 10 years old, she took her first independent steps. She learned to speak, eat with a spoon, and achieve very limited independence. Nonetheless, she walks poorly, is incontinent, has central hypotonia, and is incapable of functioning almost independently. Now, at the age of 24, she functions at the level of a 2 to 8-year-old child. Taking care of such a disabled child is emotionally and physically demanding.
Due to her health condition, she is unable to walk for long and requires support and contact. At home, she tries to walk, but she must use a wheelchair outdoors. I am immensely grateful that she is able to walk, albeit poorly, because doctors give her little hope of maintaining her ability to walk. In addition to all of this, in 2020, when her pacemaker was replaced, she contracted a golden staph infection during this „minor“ operation, which spread through the electrodes to her heart. Since that year, she has undergone a series of major surgeries and pacemaker replacements, and for the past three years, she has had an open wound on her chest, requiring us to visit the hospital for dressing changes almost every week. We considered for a long time whether a dog would be suitable for Kristýnka, and we concluded that it would be a great helper, companion, and friend for her. It will not only calm her, rehabilitate her, play with her, but will also become another member of our family. In collaboration with the assistance dog coordinator, we selected a royal poodle named Benji, whom Kristýnka has grown very fond of.
Kristýnka is an incredibly amazing girl. She loves her siblings, loves life, toys, walks, and above all, she is very positive and strong; each of us could learn from her. Despite everything, we are a family that is happy, loves each other very much, and enjoys life to the fullest.
