Naší rodině se před necelými dvěma lety obrátil svět naruby. Až do prosince 2021 jsme byli běžná rodinka se třemi dětmi, která ráda cestuje, dobře jí a užívá života. Od té doby však přibyla do party ještě maličká dvojčata, ale také následky krvácení do mozkového kmene. Prošli jsme si těžkým obdobím nejistoty a nepěkných vyhlídek. Bojujeme s nasazením všech sil každý den. Pomalu se začíná život vracet do běžnějších kolejí. K tomu, abychom se pohli z místa však potřebujeme auto, které nás všechny uveze, tedy včetně dvojkočárku a elektrického invalidního vozíku.

Life has changed completely for our family almost two years ago. Until December 2021 we were just an average family with three kids, who like to travel, eat well and enjoy life. Since then we have gained our little twins but also the effects of an hemorrhagic brainstorm stroke. We have been through a period of uncertainty and unpleasant expectations. We have fought the odds day by day. Slowly our life is starting to look a little like what it used to. For us to move forward though, we need a car, that can carry the whole family including a double stroller and an electric wheelchair.

Komu pomůžeme?

V prosinci 2021 se tatínek Carlos večer necítil dobře a šel si raději lehnout. Po chvíli se k němu přišla ještě přitulit tehdy čtyřletá dcera, probudila ho a možná mu tím zachránila život. Točila se mu hlava, nemohl se postavit na nohy, manželka Zuzana přivolala sanitku. Po příjezdu do nemocnice už byl Carlos v komatu s nejistou prognózou. Lékaři zjistili krvácení do mozkového kmene a nechtěli dávat plané naděje.

In December 2021 Carlos was not feeling very well in the evening so he went to lie down. A little later his then four year old daughter came to snuggle up, which may have saved his life. She woke him up and he realised things were wrong. He was dizzy and unable to stand up. His wife, Zuzana, called the ambulance and before he reached the nearby hospital he was already in a coma with an uncertain outlook. The doctors have diagnosed a hemorrhagic brainstem stroke.

Přišly mučivé týdny čekání. Probudí se? V jakém stavu? Bude umět dýchat? Polykat? Mluvit? Pohne prstem? Bude ještě kdy sedět? Chodit? To vše se třemi malými dětmi, covidovými zákazy návštěv a překvapením, které manželka Zuzana tenkrát nosila pod srdcem.

The upcoming weeks were pretty torturous. Will he wake up? In what condition? Will he know how to breathe? Swallow? Speak? Will he move his fingers? Will he be able to sit? All that with three small kids waiting home for their dad, the COVID restrictions on hospital visits, and the surprise Zuzana was carrying.

Brzy se ukázalo, že živo opravdu bude. Na ultrazvuku se ukázala dvojčata. Zuzaně to paradoxně dodalo sílu a víru. Carlos od té doby překonává veškerá očekávání. Po dvou měsících zápasení na JIP a dalších 3 měsících po nemocnicích se Carlos vrátil domů. Akorát včas, aby přivítal malá dvojčátka.

Soon the family found out, that there was a lot of living to be done as the ultrasound revealed that they were expecting surprise twins. It has given Zuzana an extra dose of faith and determination. Carlos has been surpassing every expectation ever since. After 2 months in the ICU and 3 more moths in hospitals he has been released into home care. Just in time to welcome the newborn twins.

Do specializovaných rehabilitačních zařízení se zatím nedostal, na to byl jeho stav příliš vážný. Intenzivně však rehabilituje v domácím prostředí a ambulantně. Postihla ho těžká ataxie a nemá tedy kontrolu nad cílením svých pohybů. To ovlivňuje veškeré svaly na těle od horních a dolních končetin, přes svaly trupu, ale i polykací a oční svaly či hlasivky. Potřebuje tedy dopomoc se všemi úkony běžného života včetně jídla či přesunů. Fyzicky se pomalu zlepšuje, situaci však komplikuje to, že přes hlasitý tinnitus, neslyší lidský hlas a je tedy odkázán na komplikovanou komunikaci přes tablet.

Sofar Carlos has not been accepted into specialized rehabilitation centres as his condition has been too serious. He has been going through intensive physical and occupational therapy and home and as an outpatient. He is dealing with severe ataxia, which is a lack of aim in all movement including his arms, legs, trunk, eye muscles, the vocal chords or swallowing. His condition is slowly improving but he still needs assistance in all aspects of daily life including food and transitions into wheelchair. To make things more complicated, he is suffering with a very loud tinnitus, which prevents him from hearing human voice. He can only communicate through the cumbersome use of technology.

Nejen Carlosovi uvězněném ve vlastním těle, ale i starším dětem, které byly zničehonic odsunuté na čtvrtou, pátou a šestou kolej, psychicky velmi pomáhají výpravy za dobrodružstvím, které po letech konečně aspoň trošku připomínají zase normální život. Cesty za kamarády nebo do přírody jsou zásadní pro udržení fungování rodiny. Doprava na terapie a k lékařům zase umožňuje odpovídající péči. Tyto výlety jsou ovšem logisticky náročné, jelikož se do auta, které nyní mají k užívání, nevejdou všechny děti a už vůbec ne nový elektrický vozík, který by Zuzaně uvolnil ruce k tlačení kočárku a chytání dvojčátek.

Not only Carlos, who is trapped in his own body, benefits from little adventure trips. The older children who have had to make space for babies and a very demanding care for their dad get to finally feel included and cared for again. Visiting friends or miniature nature escapes are paramount for maintaining the family wellbeing. Attending therapies and medical appointments is foundational for adequate care for Carlos. These trips have been challenging though, as their new electric wheelchair, that could free Zuzana's hands for pushing the stroller or chasing babies, cannot be loaded in the car they have been using, which could not carry the whole family at once anyway.
