Představení sbírky
Ničivou sílu řeky Opavy, která cestou z Jeseníků strhávala domy, mosty, silnice, železniční koleje, protrhávala hráze, není třeba připomínat. Mezi jejími oběťmi byl také domov mé neteře Kateřiny a její rodiny včetně osmdesátileté maminky. Před velkou vodou sice utekli, ale po svém návratu viděli dílo zkázy jejich rodinného domku, který se nachází v jednom z nejvíce postižených měst – v Opavě: Povodní zdevastovaný byt, který byl zatopen do výše jednoho a půl metru, zničené sklepy, garáž, zahrada – zkrátka vše, co Kateřina s manželem Honzou po dlouhá léta společně budovali.
It is not necessary to remind the devastating energy of the Opava River that tore down houses, bridges, roads, railways on its way from the Jeseníky Mountains. One of those who lost their home is my niece Kateřina and her family, the 80-year-old mother included. They had managed to escape from the flood, but when they returned they could watch the destruction of their house situated in one of the most affected cities – Opava. The water flooded their flat up to one and half meters, and also destroyed their basement, garage, garden. In short, everything Katka and her husband Honza had built together for years.

Katka a Honza Hefkovi jsou typická rodina – Katka je učitelka odborného výcviku, Honza je zaměstnán jako stolař; mají dvě děti školního věku – devítiletou Adrianku a třináctiletého Honzíka. Teď se rodina ocitla v nelehké situaci, kdy musí začít úplně od nuly. Přes tu hrůzu, po které jim zůstal prázdný byt bez dveří, nábytku, zabudovaných spotřebičů, s potrhanými podlahami a mokrými stěnami, sbírají sílu a hledají finance, aby se pustili do opravy. Domek je pojištěn, ale krytí bohužel zdaleka neuhradí veškeré vzniklé škody.
Katka and Honza Hefkovi are a typical family – Katka is a teacher of vocational training, Honza works as a cabinetmaker. They have two schoolchildren: nine-year-old Adrianka and thirteen-year-old Honzík. Now the family have found themselves in a very difficult situation when they need to start from scratch. In spite of the disaster that left the flat empty without doors, furniture, appliances, with damaged floors and wet walls, they try to pick up energy and money so that they could start the reconstruction. The house has been insured, but the insurance is far from covering all the flood damage.
