Support the Czech National Roller Derby Team on Their Journey to the World Cup!
We are the Czech Roller Derby Team – a national team composed of a selection of skaters from various Czech and European leagues. This July, we're facing a great challenge: the Roller Derby World Cup in Innsbruck, Austria. After a long seven-year break, the Czech national team is returning to the world stage to compete with teams from around the globe. And to be able to represent the Czech Republic in the best way possible, we need your help.
Why are we asking for your support?
Roller derby is a great, dynamic sport played on quad skates, primarily by women, but unfortunately it is also very financially demanding. In the Czech Republic, it operates on a volunteer basis – without major sponsors or state support. Skaters cover all expenses themselves: trainings, equipment, travel to international bouts… and now participation in the World Cup.
The goal of this fundraiser is to ease at least part of the financial burden and allow the players – who, in addition to intense trainings and international prep matches, must also balance work and family life – to focus fully on their performance and representing the Czech Republic with dignity.
Who are we?
We're a team made up of members based in Prague, Brno, Dublin, and London. We train in our free time – after work or between studies – and for the past six months, we've dedicated pretty much all our spare time to preparing for the championship.
But derby is more than just a sport to us – it's a community, a safe space where everyone can be themselves, free of judgment.
How will your donations be used?
Your contributions will help cover some of the key costs related to the participation in the championship:
– New national team jerseys – CZK 40.000
– Transportation to and from Innsbruck – CZK 50.000 CZK
– Accommodation in Innsbruck for the entire team – CZK 263.000
– Possibly also contributions toward new gear for the players
A week of accommodation in Innsbruck during the championship is the biggest expense for the team. If we raise enough to cover jerseys and travel, any additional funds will go towards reducing the amount we have to pay out of pocket.
And if we happen to raise more? The players will certainly appreciate help with getting new gear – like pads or wheels.
