Musica Florea is a renowned Prague orchestra that is regularly invited to international music festivals. For over 30 years it has been discovering forgotten or ignored compositions and their composers and has enriched the music scene with new and original projects.
Musica Florea has made 40 successful recordings. It is one of the few orchestras that, in addition to Baroque music, focuses on historically informed interpretation of Romantic symphonic compositions.
Violin virtuoso Roman Patočka accepted our invitation to be a special guest in this year´s concert and recording. Together, we will perform Antonín Dvořák´s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor, Op. 53.
With this recording, we would like to draw attention to Zdeněk Fibich, the greatest Czech Romantic composer. Fibich, together with B. Smetana and A. Dvořák, was one of the three founders of Czech national music. He was involved in all music genres, using his specific talents to varying degree: his natural sense for drama, extensive melodic invention, romantically colorful ear as well as his feel for balladic twilight. In this recording, you will hear the optimistic and spontaneous Symphony No. 1 in F major, Op. 17, called the “symphony of Fibich’s youth.”
The recording is to showcase the richness of Czech Romantic music and, together with you, we would like to discover the enthralling passion, emotion and expression of this music.
“The Romantic ideal was about emotion, passion and expression, and these three elements were embodied in the rhythm, tempo and intonation of 19th -century music, e.g. the deliberate
differentiation and use of unusual tonalities and harmonies. Various rhythm figures were accelerated or, conversely, slowed according to the type of musical expression, even in orchestral pieces. Musicians of the Romantic period were not afraid to use decorative elements.”
– Marek Štryncl
The new recording will be presented at the opening concert of the 24th year of Musica Florea Bohemia in Prague, Brno and Nymburk in March 2026.
